Join us for an unforgettable experience at the annual Golden Eagle Festival in Bayan-Ulgii province, western Mongolia. This captivating event celebrates the rich tradition of golden eagle hunting, heralding the start of the winter hunting season. Witness skilled hunters from various regions as they showcase their remarkable partnership with these majestic birds, offering a glimpse into a centuries-old practice that continues to thrive.
Arrival day. Depending on your arrival time, we'll visit the National History Museum to delve into Mongolian history. Explore Sukhbaatar Square near our hotel. Enjoy an authentic folk concert in the evening followed by a welcome dinner at the hotel. (Hotel, Meals: Lunch, Dinner)
After checking out, we fly to Bayan Ulgii, the westernmost province. Lunch at a local Turkish restaurant. Transfer to a ger camp near Tolbo Lake. Enjoy a welcome dinner with a local Eagle family, learning about Kazakh culture and Eagle hunting traditions. Rest at the ger camp for the upcoming Festival. Start the day with breakfast, then head to the Festival site for the parade of Eagle Hunters. Witness various competitions showcasing the skills of Eagle Hunters and their Eagles. Enjoy lunch at the festival site. Capture unforgettable moments with your camera. (Ger camp, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Visit the Festival site again for the remaining competitions, including equine games like Kiz Kuar and Tug of War. After lunch at the festival site, return to Ulgii town and explore the local open market. (Ger camp, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Fly back to Ulaanbaatar. Free evening for souvenir shopping. Farewell dinner with Nomadic Trails. (Hotel, Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Transfer to the international departure point.
The baggage allowance for a domestic flight in Mongolia is 15 kilograms in total, with 10 kilograms allocated for check-in luggage and 5 kilograms for hand luggage. Extra luggage incurs a fee of 3000-5000 Tugriks (local currency) per extra kilogram.
The electrical plug types in Mongolia vary, with most being Type C and Type E plugs with 2 round holes.
You can charge your camera and equipment during the trip either in the car while traveling between locations or at the ger camp. It's recommended to bring extra batteries for your camera and power banks for your hand luggage, especially during ger stays where charging opportunities may be limited.
For the Golden Eagle Festival Tour, you do not need to bring a sleeping bag as accommodations are provided in a ger camp in Ulgii town.
You will have ample opportunities to photograph Mongolian Eagle hunters, as they often visit the festival site and may join for dinner. Photography sessions can be arranged with Eagle hunters, typically costing between 15 USD per hour to 40 USD per day per Eagle Hunter.
You can buy handmade souvenirs and gifts in Ulgii town, where local souvenir shops offer a variety of handicrafts made by Mongolians and Kazakhs. These shops also bring their goods to the Festival sites, providing a wide range of choices for souvenirs.
