Itinerary

Today marks our international arrival day. Depending on your arrival time, we may visit the National History Museum, home to priceless treasures of Mongolian history. We'll also explore Sukhbaatar Square, the main square of Ulaanbaatar city, located a short walk from our hotel. In the evening, enjoy an authentic folk concert followed by a welcome dinner. This morning, we'll transfer to the airport for a flight to Murun town, the hub of Khuvsgul province in northern Mongolia (1-hour flight). After visiting the town and supermarket for snacks, we'll drive to Khuvsgul Lake. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

Today, we'll meet our horses and ride along the shores of Khuvsgul Lake, the deepest lake in Mongolia. We'll adjust to the horse riding tempo and get accustomed to our Mongolian horses. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

After breakfast, we embark on a horseback journey deep into the mountain valleys, crossing rivers as we slowly make our way towards the Jigleg Pass. Our vehicles will depart ahead of us, carrying supplies for the day. Tonight, we camp by a small river just before reaching the pass. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

Following a hearty breakfast, we ride towards and through the Darkhad Depression, a region abundant in freshwater lakes and rivers. Traverse the Siberian Taiga, a forested area of Mongolia, on this unforgettable journey. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

Today, our adventure continues through the Darkhad Depression, characterized by numerous mountains and flower-filled valleys. We'll set up camp near the Sharga River Valley, with the option for night horse riding under the starry sky if conditions permit and there's interest. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

As we continue through the stunning Darkhad Depression, we'll visit a nomadic family in Hogorog River Valley. Immerse yourself in the local culture and stay overnight in a traditional Mongolian Ger, lovingly built by the family. (Ger stay, B, L, D)

Our day begins early as we ride towards the Taiga, home to the Tsaachin or Reindeer communities. Experience their unique way of life, learn about their culture, and participate in activities like milking reindeer and making cheese. Spend the day living among the Tsaachin people in teepees. After bidding farewell to the tribe, we journey back to the Hogorog River Valley, passing through enchanting larch forests and wildflower-filled meadows. Our ride takes us to Dood Tsenher Lake, where we set up camp for the night. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

Today, we ride to see ancient petroglyphs in the region and enjoy a picnic lunch near Dood Lake. Continuing our journey, we reach Tsagaan Nuur town, the northernmost town in Mongolia, where we'll camp for the night. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

After breakfast, we ride along the mountains, passing through a valley teeming with animals like sheep, goats, yaks, cows, and horses. Enjoy a picnic lunch en route as we continue riding to the Hogiin River valley, where we set up camp for the night. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

Today, we venture into the mountains overlooking the lake, gradually ascending to the pass for breathtaking views. Ride to the Ar Bosgot canyon, known locally as "heaven's door," and reach our camp where we bid farewell to our horses. (Tented camping, B, L, D)

After breakfast, we drive via two passes to Murun town, stopping at the 13 Ovoo shamanic offering place to offer rice or milk for a safe journey. Arrive in Murun town and stay overnight at a local hotel. (Local hotel, B, L, D)

Early morning, we fly from Murun town to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the hotel for a free afternoon, ideal for souvenir shopping. Enjoy a farewell dinner as we wrap up our unforgettable horse riding journey in Mongolia. (Hotel, B, L, D)

Frequently asked questions

Make sure to pack high-quality riding boots, rain jackets, riding gloves, and windproof jackets for your trip. There's no need to bring a saddle or bridles as we provide comfortable western-type saddles, and our horse guide ensures the horses are well taken care of.

For your comfort and convenience, consider bringing the following items:

  • Your own helmet (although we do provide them if needed).
  • A small-sized saddlebag for a water bottle and accessories.
  • Saddle pads for extra comfort during rides.

In the Northern parts of Mongolia, especially near rivers or lakes in the evenings, mosquitoes can be prevalent. We highly recommend using a highly effective mosquito spray for protection.

We've successfully arranged horse riding trips to the Taiga for travelers who are new to horse riding. Don't worry; our Tour Leader will provide detailed instructions on horse riding techniques, saddle positioning, reins handling, and more.

All our team members are trained in First Aid, ensuring quick response and care if needed. With mossy and soft ground and guidance from your horse guide, the risk of injury is minimal.

Each day's horse riding duration varies depending on weather and activities. Expect 2-8 hours per day, including breaks and meal stops. Activities like visiting local herdsmen or sightseeing are included in the riding hours.

There's a wide range of options available if you prefer not to participate in horse riding while your friends or group members do. You can explore activities such as fishing, photography sessions, or hiking through the mountains at our destinations. Just reach out to us, and we'll arrange these activities for you.

Our experienced expedition chef will prepare a delightful mix of Mongolian and European cuisine for your tented trip. Depending on the day's itinerary, such as long drives, we'll provide packed lunches. Please inform us of your dietary needs and allergies when filling out the passenger list.

We'll supply mineral water, tea, and freshly brewed coffee. However, soda and juice will not be provided.

The baggage allowance for domestic flights in Mongolia is 15 kg total: 10 kg for checked luggage and 5 kg for hand luggage. Additional luggage incurs a fee of 3000-5000 Tugriks per extra kilogram.
