Embark on a 2-day, 1-night adventure to Kharkhorin and Hustai National Park, where history and nature come alive. Begin your journey with a visit to the ancient Mongol capital of Karakorum. At Hustai National Park, witness the majestic Takhi, or Przewalski’s horse, the last surviving species of wild horses.
A key highlight of this tour is Kharkhorin, the historical capital founded by Chinggis Khan in the 13th century. Today, Kharkhorin is a captivating destination, drawing travelers with its rich history and cultural sites. Explore the insightful museum, the UNESCO-protected Orkhon Valley, and the Erdene Zuu Monastery, which stands on the ruins of the ancient capital.
Another must-see on this tour is the Little Gobi, a stunning expanse of golden sand dunes stretching over 80km, known locally as Elsen Tasarkhai. This natural wonder is a favorite among both locals and visitors for its breathtaking beauty.
Commencing our adventure bright and early, we'll greet you at your accommodation and embark on a journey to the golden dunes of Elsen Tasarkhai, where tranquility awaits. Continuing our expedition, we'll venture towards Kharkhorin, the ancient Mongolian capital that reigned supreme in the 13th century. Our explorations will encompass the monument honoring the Great Khans of Mongolia, as well as the local museum. As dusk falls, we'll make our way to the Urguu ger camp, nestled conveniently near Kharkhorin town, where we'll rest for the night. Overnight stay with meals provided (Lunch, Dinner).
Fueled by a hearty morning repast, we'll delve into the historical depths of the Erdene Zuu monastery. Once our exploration concludes, we'll embark on a journey back towards the capital city, with a stopover at the renowned Khustai National Park. A picnic lunch will rejuvenate us amidst nature's embrace. On our return from Kharkhorin, an entirely distinct experience awaits. Revel in the afternoon as we seek out the park's wildlife, including the majestic Takhi or Przewalskii Horses – the sole remaining species of truly wild horses, reintroduced here in 1992. Within this sanctuary, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the untamed wilderness, potentially encountering a diverse array of fauna, such as Red deer, marmots, foxes, gray wolves, palace cats, and an assortment of avian species. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Extensive ambulation will be undertaken at each destination, necessitating the packing of your most comfortable and suitable footwear for perambulation. Adhere to a minimalist approach when packing, as the Nomadic Trails staff will provide you with mineral hydration, and midday and evening repasts. While utensils need not be packed, a personal water vessel is advisable to maintain optimal hydration levels, which is crucial for your well-being. The accommodation at Kharkhorin will furnish you with pristine, sterilized bedding. However, it is prudent to pack a face towel and a single night's worth of toiletries.
Should you possess a pair of binoculars, it would prove an ideal accouterment for your wildlife observation endeavors at Khustai National Park.
